Do you smell gas in your house, building or in the street? It's a gas leak. Act quickly. But first, make sure you're safe by following our instructions.

If you observed a gas leak, inform the emergency services as soon as possible.
For the Brussels region, call 0800 19 400 or 112.
For the Walloon region, call 0800 87 087 or 112.
For the Flemish region, call 0800 65 065 or 112.

These numbers are available 24/7.

If you observed a gas smell, then follow these 4 safety instructions. Stay calm and concentrated.

Open all doors and windows

As natural gas is lighter than air, it will escape through open doors and windows. This reduces the risk of explosion.

Do not produce sparks or flames.

To avoid sparks, do not use any electrical or electronic appliance.

Do not operate any switches, telephones, lights, heaters, home automation devices, lifts, doorbells or torches.

Do not light matches, lighters or candles.

Do not smoke, not even electronic cigarettes.

Turn off the gas valve

Warning: only turn off the gas valve if you can reach it without switching on a light or torch.

Leave the building quickly

Leave your home.

Tell your neighbours if you live in a block of flats.

Once you are out of the range of the smell of gas, call the emergency numbers you can find on top of this article
