Sometimes, good neighbours turn into good friends. But sometimes, they don't. Living together in an apartment building requires mutual respect, a little tolerance and sometimes a good conversation. Read on if you encounter issues with a neighbor. We're here to help as much as possible.
Talk about it
We have the experience that, even when a neighbor is causing you a lot of nuisance, he or she is often not completely aware of it. Therefore, we always ask you to approach your neighbor directly. Explain him that you are sometimes disturbed by his or her behavior and try to find a solution together.
Solutions that are found mutually between two residents are usually the most solid.
Not helping?
If you have tried approaching your neighbor and it's not working out, feel free to contact us. We can try contacting your neighbor for you and suggest some solutions. Please note that we cannot share personal contact details of other residents with you.
Escalating a problem
Home Invest has no authority to intervene in disputes between residents. If the problem remains after several attempts to discuss it with your neighbor, we will have to advise you to go to the police as a last resort. Feel free to contact us to obtain local police contact information. If there's anything else we can do, don't hesitate to contact us again.
Some tips
Our property managers have been managing apartments for over 20 years now. Some things we've learned over time:
- In case of any noise disturbance: remind your neighbor of the internal house rules. Noise is not permitted at night.
- Odor nuisance? Try to find the root cause. If residents are smoking in their apartment, suggest to cover any openings between the apartment and the hallway, or convene that the apartment is ventilated regularly. Just so you know: smoking in an apartment will probably lead to extra costs when moving out, since it impacts the paint on the walls.
- Garbage annoying you? Remind the neighbor of the house rules, maybe show him where garbage is supposed to be.
- Is your parking space occupied by a neighbor? Inform him that his vehicle might be towed at his expense next time. If you're unsure who's occupying your parking spot, feel free to contact us so we can investigate.
